How a Round Plays Out

European Blackjack is normally played with two or more decks of cards. Before the round begins, the player places a bet, then the dealer deals two face-up cards to each player. The dealer also receives two cards, but the defining feature of European rules is that the dealer's second card (the hole card) is dealt only after all players have completed their hands.

The player's goal is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over — exceeding 21 is called a "bust" and the player is immediately out. Card values are counted as follows: Ace = 1 or 11, 10/Jack/Queen/King = 10 each.

After seeing each hand, the player may choose one of four actions: take another card (Hit), stop with the current cards (Stand), double the bet and take exactly one more card (Double Down), or split two cards of equal value into two separate hands (Split). Once all players have finished their turns, the dealer reveals the second card and Hits or Stands according to the rules.

If the first two cards total exactly 21, that is a "Blackjack" — more valuable than an ordinary 21. If the dealer does not have Blackjack, the player's Blackjack wins.

Bets and Payouts

Main Bet Types and How Each Pays

In European Blackjack each bet has its own payout structure. The main bets are explained in plain language below.

Main Bet

Main Hand Bet

The standard bet placed before each round. If the player beats the dealer, the player wins an amount equal to the bet — a 1:1 payout. If the player and dealer tie, the bet is returned (Push).

Special Payout

Blackjack Payout

Getting 21 with the first two cards (one Ace + any ten-value card) is a Blackjack. Most tables pay 3:2, meaning a ৳1,000 bet yields ৳1,500 in profit. Some variants pay 6:5, which is less favourable for the player.

Double Down

Double Down Bet

If the first two cards look strong, you can double the original bet and receive exactly one more card. A successful Double Down pays 1:1 on the full bet.

Split

Split Bet

If you receive two cards of equal value you can split them into two separate hands. An equal bet to the original must be placed on each hand. When splitting two Aces, each hand usually receives only one additional card.

Insurance

Insurance Bet

If the dealer's first card is an Ace, the player may place an Insurance bet — half the original bet. If the dealer has Blackjack, the Insurance bet pays 2:1. Over the long run, however, this bet is generally not advantageous for the player.

Side Bet

Side Bet

Many tables offer side bets such as Perfect Pairs or 21+3. These are independent of the main hand and pay separately based on specific card combinations. Side bets typically carry a higher house edge.

What Is the House Edge

Learn About the Casino's Built-In Advantage

The house edge is how much the casino retains on average from each bet over the long run. In European Blackjack this advantage is relatively low — by following correct basic strategy it can be brought down to around 0.5%.

The No Hole Card rule — where the dealer does not reveal a second card upfront — is a feature of the European version. This means that if you Double or Split and the dealer ends up with Blackjack, you may lose those extra bets too. Some variants limit this loss (under the OBBO — Original Bets Only rule) — the table information panel will show which applies.

More decks generally raise the house edge slightly, so finding a table with fewer decks (6 or fewer) is advantageous. The vip take Casino section on vip take has Blackjack tables at various limits.

Keep in mind that the house edge is a mathematical average — it does not determine the outcome of every session. Luck can play a large role in the short term.

Tips for Beginners

What You Gain by Learning Basic Strategy First

Basic strategy means making the mathematically best decision for every possible hand combination. There is no need to memorise it — the patterns become familiar with a little practice.

Your Hand Dealer's Showing Card Advice
8 or less Any Always Hit
11 Dealer shows 2–10 Consider Double Down
12–16 (not Soft) Dealer shows 2–6 Stand (dealer may bust)
12–16 (not Soft) Dealer shows 7 or higher Hit
17 or more (Hard) Any Always Stand
Two Aces (A-A) Any Always Split
Two 8s (8-8) Any Always Split
Soft 18 (A+7) Dealer shows 9, 10 or Ace Hit

This table does not guarantee a result in every case, but over the long run it leads to fewer losses than guessing. More questions about Blackjack are answered on the FAQ page.

Two Forms of the Table

Live Dealer vs Digital Blackjack

Digital (RNG) Blackjack

In digital Blackjack powered by an RNG (Random Number Generator), a computer algorithm determines the cards. It can be played offline, seats never fill up, and bet sizes are generally more flexible.

For beginners, the digital version offers the benefit of taking decisions at your own pace — no rush. It is a good place to practise basic strategy.

  • Play any time
  • Seats never full
  • Take decisions at your own pace
  • Less dependent on internet speed

Many players prefer to get familiar with slots before moving to live dealer versions. Those interested can also visit the vip take Slots section — a somewhat different approach applies there. Players who also enjoy sports betting can head to the vip take Cricket Betting section to bet on familiar games from Bangladesh.

European Blackjack tables have limits ranging from minimum bets up to high-stakes. At each live table you can usually see the Min Bet and Max Bet on screen before sitting down. Digital tables are more flexible — the same game allows you to adjust your bet amount freely.

VIP tables generally offer private seats, a dedicated dealer, and higher bet limits. Joining the vip take VIP Program opens the door to cashback and special benefits.

Common Questions

European Blackjack Questions

The biggest difference is when the dealer receives the hole card. In the American version, the dealer gets two cards at the start and keeps one face down — that is the hole card. In the European version, the dealer receives the second card only at the very end, after all players have finished their turns. This difference affects Double Down and Split decisions.

Soft 17 means an Ace + 6 totalling 17. In this hand the Ace is counted as 11, so taking another card carries less risk of busting. At many tables the dealer is required to Hit on Soft 17 — this rule raises the house edge slightly. On Hard 17 (without an Ace), the dealer Stands in all versions.

In standard basic strategy, when your hand totals 11 and the dealer is showing 2 through 10, Doubling Down is mathematically advantageous. When your hand totals 10 and the dealer shows 2 through 9, Double can also be considered. However, if the dealer shows an Ace, it is generally better to avoid Double Down.

When the player and dealer have the same score it is called a Push or tie. In this case the player neither wins nor loses — the original bet is returned. It is not a loss, but it is not a win either.

Yes, modern live Blackjack tables run well on both mobile browsers and apps. Live video streaming does require a reasonably good internet connection — 4G or Wi-Fi gives the best experience. Digital RNG Blackjack runs comfortably even on lower speeds.
